Musicians usually study for years on an instrument that they specialize in but are very capable of playing other instruments of like manner.
Professional Musicians often play instruments like the piano, guitar, drums, and some brass instruments. The Musicians of today normally start out by creating their own band or playing in high school music class. Most of the modern day Musicians want to have a rock band or play country and western music. This is the most highest paying positions to have for a Musicians, however, many find that working in local nightclubs to be rewarding and provide them with a good income. Many times the Musician starts by playing at parties, receptions, or perhaps in some local restaurants. Local high schools will hire a local band to play at the area high school dance. This gives the striving new Musician a chance to play in public and also to find ways to earn income.
Many high school students who form their own band enjoy playing at local school events, birthday parties, receptions, etc. In this manner it gives them the chance to become known while giving them the opportunity to earn money. Many of these bands who want to really become known have a lead singer with a terrific voice or several of the Musicians who can be backup singers t help harmonize with the music. In this manner they become well known as performers. The top fields to be well known in are that of rock music, country music or jazz. While these fields are in the forefront of fame and glory there is other types of music that Musicians play that helps them in their career.
The Classical Musicians play in operatic and theatrical productions. Many of the Classical Musicians play in symphony orchestras, concerts, and recitals. These Musicians generally play string, brass, percussion or woodwind instruments. Pianist usually accompanies vocal or instrumental soloists or choral groups. The Musicians who are pianist usually performs on the concert stage, for television or in a small club. While an organists plays in churches and often directs a choir. Some Musicians who are organist receive pay while others do it as volunteer work.
In some cases the Musicians become distinguished artists and perform solo numbers with the symphony orchestra. The popular Musician may play alone or with a group on a concert tour. Many of the well-known Musicians are recording artists who earn a very good income from the sales of their records. Some Musicians work as house Musicians for television shows. Unfortunately, there are thousands of Musicians who cannot support themselves with the type of music that they play so they maintain other jobs and play on the weekends, give private lessons in their own homes or in the homes of the students. While other Musicians may operate as studio musicians, operate music stores, or play background music for a featured singer or group at recording sessions. The hours are irregular and the work is unsteady so many Musicians chose not to perform as a profession. Instead these Musicians teach at music schools or conservatories. While others become teachers at colleges or secondary schools. These musician-teachers provide instruction in music appreciation, music theory and voice. Yet there is another group of Musicians who prefer to give lessons on instruments and they often work in area schools as the band teacher. Many of these band instructors teach young people how to play their instrument and March. This type of Musician enjoys the benefit of seeing their students perform in public.
Some Musicians understand the mechanics of their instrument and of other instruments and they are able to repair instruments. This is a very lucrative field in that they get paid well to repair the instruments. Many times they are called on to go into people’s homes to tune their piano or repair the broken instruments. Many times they operate their own music shop having the customer bring the instrument to them for repair if it is one of the smaller portable instruments.
