Installation Helper Job Description

The Installation Helper job function is to help installation, maintenance, and repair workers in maintenance, parts, replacement, and repair vehicles, industrial, machinery, and electrical and electronic equipment. They perform duties, such as furnishing tools, materials, and supplies to other workers, cleaning work area, machines, and tools; and holding materials or tools for other workers.

Duties:

The Installation Helper tends and observes equipment and machinery to verify efficient and safe operations. The Installation Helper examines and tests machinery, equipment, components, and parts for defects to ensure proper functioning. The Installation Helper adjusts, connects, or disconnects wiring, piping, tubing, and other parts, using hand or power tools. The Installation Helper installs or replaces machinery, equipment, and new or replacement parts and instruments, using hand or power tools. The Installation Helper cleans or lubricates vehicles, machinery, equipment, instruments, tools, work areas, and other objects, using hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment. The Installation Helper applies protective materials to equipment, components, and parts to prevent defects and corrosion. The Installation Helper transfers tools, parts, equipment, and supplies to and from work stations and other areas. The Installation Helper disassembles broken or defective equipment to facilitate repair and reassemble equipment when repairs are complete. The Installation Helper assembles and maintains physical structures, using hand or power tools. The Installation Helper provides assistance to more skilled workers involved in the adjustment, maintenance, part replacement, and repair of tools, equipment, and machines.

The Installation Helper needs knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance. The Installation Helper needs knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. The Installation Helper needs knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistic, and their applications. The Installation Helper needs knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

Skills:

The Installation Helper performs routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed. The Installation Helper must give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times. The Installation Helper repairs machines or systems using the needed tools. The Installation Helper installs equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications. The Installation Helper determines causes of operating errors and decides what to do about it. The Installation Helper uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. The Installation Helper watches gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. The Installation Helper controls operations of equipment and systems. The Installation Helper determines the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. The Installation Helper understands the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making.

Abilities:

The Installation Helper needs the ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position. The Installation Helper needs the ability to see details at close range in order to properly do their job function. The Installation Helper needs the ability to tell when something is wrong is likely to go wrong, it does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. The Installation Helper needs the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The Installation Helper needs the ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms and or legs.
