New York Police Department Job Description

Established 1845 in Lower Manhattan, New York City, New York City Police Department or commonly known as NYPD is currently the largest municipal police force in the United States. NYPD is one of the oldest police departments settled in the United States. With Joseph Exposito as the Chief of Department and Police ¬Commissioned by Raymond W. Walley, NYPD is sworn to enforce law and investigate crimes, and continues to be New York’s finest.

Criminalist is a Police Department employee that investigates scene-of-the-crime evidences. He or she collects, identifies and analyzes physical evidences pointing to the crime. He or she conducts tests on the evidence objects or substances like hair, weapon, tissue, cigarette butt and others. If necessary, criminalist will testify in court as expert witness based on the scientific investigation of the gathered objects.
