Manicurists and Pedicurists Job Description

The Manicurists and Pedicurists clean and shape customers’ fingernails and toenails. The Manicurists and Pedicurists may polish or decorate nails.

Duties

The Manicurists and Pedicurists clean and sanitize tools and work environment. The Manicurists and Pedicurists schedules client’s appointments and accept payments. The Manicurists and Pedicurists removes previously applied nail polish, using liquid remover and swabs. The Manicurists and Pedicurists clean customers’ nails in soapy water, using swabs, files, and orange sticks. The Manicurists and Pedicurists shapes and smooth ends of nails, using scissors, files, and emery boards. The Manicurists and Pedicurists apply undercoats and clears or colored polish onto nails with brush. The Manicurists and Pedicurists advise clients on nail care and use of products and colors. The Manicurists and Pedicurists assess the condition of clients’ hands, remove dead skin from the hands and massage them. The Manicurists and Pedicurists soften nail cuticles with water and oil, pushes back cuticles, using cuticle knife, and trims cuticles, using scissors or nippers. The Manicurists and Pedicurists brushes powder and solvent onto nails and paper forms to maintain nail appearance and to extend nails, then remove forms and shapes and smooth nail edges using rotary abrasive wheel.

The Manicurists and Pedicurists need knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. The Manicurists and Pedicurists need knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems. The Manicurists and Pedicurists needs knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

Skills

The Manicurists and Pedicurists must give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. The Manicurists and Pedicurists needs to be aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do. This is vital when you are working with many different people in order to be able to provide them with the service that is best for their nails. The Manicurists and Pedicurists need the skill to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. The Manicurists and Pedicurists need the skill to convey information effectively. They must be able to explain to their clients what the best procedure for their nails is.
