The Bilingual Assistant Teacher reports to and works with the classroom Lead Teacher and is responsible for assisting the classroom Lead Teacher with the general supervision and management of the class.
The Bilingual Assistant Teacher must be warm, friendly, sensitive, and able to relate well to students and be willing to perform responsibilities according to the program and philosophy of the school or center. The Bilingual Assistant Teacher must also meet the requirements of required licensing agencies and/or accreditation organizations.

Tasks of a Bilingual Assistant Teacher
- The Bilingual Assistant Teacher will work bilingually with a student or group of students to ensure access to a given curriculum or program
- The Bilingual Assistant Teacher translates curricular materials or communications/letters (face-to-face, over the phone, in writing) as requested by the Lead/class/subject teacher
- The Bilingual Assistant Teacher provides background information on a student’s languages, religion, or cultures for school staff
- The Bilingual Assistant Teacher acts as interpreter on school-based meetings or home visits (where requested)
- The Bilingual Assistant Teacher promotes methods in school that value linguistic, religious, cultural and ethnic diversity
- The Bilingual Assistant Teacher assists in planning and implementing the daily program under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, including lesson plans
- The Bilingual Assistant Teacher assists in planning and preparing the learning environment, including required materials and supplies
- The Bilingual Assistant Teacher supervises the class when the Lead Teacher is out of the room
- The Bilingual Assistant Teacher assists the Lead Teacher in other ways as requested
