The Financial Quantitative Analyst develops quantitative financial products used to inform individuals and financial institutions engaged in saving, lending, investing, borrowing, or managing risk. They investigate methods for financial analysis to create mathematical models used to develop improved analytical tools and advanced financial investment instruments.

Tasks for Financial Quantitative Analysts

  • The Financial Quantitative Analysts applies mathematical and statistical techniques to address practical issues in finance, such as derivative valuation, securities trading, risk management, or financial market regulation.
  • The Financial Quantitative Analysts devises or applies independent models and tools to help verify results of analytical systems.
  • The Financial Quantitative Analysts researches and develops analytical tools to address issues such as portfolio construction and optimization, performance measurement, attribution, profit-and-loss measurement, and pricing models.
  • The Financial Quantitative Analysts collaborates with product development teams to research, model, validate, or implement quantitative structured solutions for new or expanded markets.
  • The Financial Quantitative Analysts consult financial industry personnel, such as traders, to determine the need for new or improved analytical applications.
  • The Financial Quantitative Analysts confers with other financial engineers and analysts to understand trading strategies, market dynamics, and trading system performance to inform development of quantitative techniques.

The Financial Quantitative Analysts is responsible for everyone who works in their division to help them learn how to define and model specifications or data collection methods. Everyone in the division must use the same procedures when creating analytic models. Most Financial Quantitative Analysts address practical issues in finance, such as derivative valuation, securities trading, risk management or financial market regulation. The Financial Quantitative Analysts must maintain a reputation that is above reproach since the information that they deal with is very sensitive materials that is to be kept secure for the client and/or corporation that they work.
