The Dietetic Technician assists dietitians in the provision of food service and nutritional programs. The Dietetic Technician under the supervision of dietitians may plan and produce meals based on established guidelines, teach principles of food and nutrition, or counsel individuals.
Duties:
The Dietetic Technician observes patient food intake and report progress and dietary problems to dietician. The Dietetic Technician prepares a major meal, following recipes and determines group food quantities. The Dietetic Technician obtains and evaluates dietary histories of individuals to plan nutritional programs. The Dietetic Technician analyzes menus and evaluates dietary histories of individuals to plan nutritional programs. The Dietetic Technician plans menus and diets or guides individuals and families in food selection, preparation, and menu planning, based upon nutritional needs and established guidelines. The Dietetic Technician supervises food production and service, or assists dietitians and nutritionists in food service supervision and planning. The Dietetic Technician develops job specifications, job descriptions, and work schedules. The Dietetic Technician selects, schedules, and conducts orientation and in-service education programs. The Dietetic Technician provides dietitians with assistance researching food, nutrition and food service systems. The Dietetic Technician determines food beverage costs and assists in implementing cost control procedures.
Knowledge:
The Dietetic Technician needs knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting food products both plants and animals for consumption, including storage techniques. The Dietetic Technician needs knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. The Dietetic Technician needs knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
Skills:
The Dietetic Technician needs the skill to talk to others to convey information effectively. They must give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. The Dietetic Technician monitors performance of you, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. Work Activities:
The Dietetic Technician observes, receives, and otherwise obtains information from all relevant sources.
