Training and Development Managers Job Description

The Training and Development Managers job function is to plan, direct, or coordinate the training and development activities and staff of an organization.

Duties:

  • The Training and Development Managers must prepare training budgets for departments or organizations.
  • The Training and Development Managers evaluate instructor’s performances and the effectiveness of training programs, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • The Training and Development Managers analyzes training needs to develop new training programs or modify and improve existing programs.
  • The Training and Development Managers conduct or arrange for ongoing technical training and personal development classes for staff members.
  • The Training and Development Managers plan, develop, and provide training and staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • The Training and Development Manager conducts orientation seasons and arrange on-the-job training for new hires.
  • The Training and Development Manager confers with management and conducts surveys to identify training needs based on projected production processes, changes, and other factors.
  • The Training and Development Manager trains instructors and supervisors in techniques and skills for training and dealing with employees.
  • The Training and Development Manager develops and organizes training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
  • The Training and Development Manager develops testing and evaluation procedures as part of their job function.

The Training and Development Manager needs knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. The Training and Development Manager needs knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. The Training and Development Manager needs knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. The Training and Development Manager needs knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems. The Training and Development Manager needs knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. The Training and Development Manager needs knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. The Training and Development Manager needs knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media. The Training and Development Manager needs knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, cultures and their history and origins. The Training and Development Manager needs knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics; product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control system.

  • The Training and Development need the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • The Training and Development need the ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.
  • The Training and Development need the ability to come up with a number of ideas about a topic the number of ideas is important, not their quality, correctness, or creativity.
  • The Training and Development need the ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events.
  • The Training and Development need the ability to come up with unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem.
