The Computer Hardware Engineer researches, designs, develops, and tests computer or computer related equipment for commercial, industrial, military, or scientific use. The Computer Hardware Engineer may supervise the manufacturing and installation of computer or computer related equipment and components.

Tasks for Computer Hardware Engineers

  • The Computer Hardware Engineer updates knowledge and skills to keep up with rapid advancements in computer technology.

  • The Computer Hardware Engineer provides technical support to designers, marketing and sales departments, suppliers, engineers and other team members throughout the product development and implementation process.

  • The Computer Hardware Engineer tests and verifies hardware and support peripherals to ensure that they meet specifications and requirements, by recording and analyzing test data.

  • The Computer Hardware Engineer monitors functioning or equipment and make necessary modifications to ensure system operates in conformance with specifications.

  • The Computer Hardware Engineer analyzes information to determines, recommends, and plan layouts, including type of computers and peripheral equipment modifications.

  • The Computer Hardware Engineer builds, tests, and modifies product prototypes using working models or theoretical models constructed with computer simulation.

  • The Computer Hardware Engineer analyzes user’s needs and recommends appropriate hardware.
