IT Manager Job Description

The IT Manager assists in the planning and implementations of additions, deletions and major modifications to the supporting regional infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The IT Manager implements network security at the regional level.
  • The IT Manager oversees the administration and maintenance of the company’s infrastructure.
  • The IT Manager oversees the administration of the company’s WAN.

The IT Manger is in charge of training and lab maintenance procedures that the company needs. The IT Manager oversees the administration and maintenance of computer stations and software for company training programs. The IT Manager is responsible for troubleshooting, systems backups, and archiving and disaster recovery. The IT Manager supervises the work that is being done and provides additional support if necessary. The IT Manager in charge of the help desk often oversees all help desk activities at the regional level, responds to escalated help desk issues, and over sees the administration and maintenance of tracking software. The IT Manager duties are vital for the success of the help desks operations.

The IT Manager is a vital part of vendor relationships as he manages the purchase of hardware and software products. He also is in charge of any additions of product at the regional level when it comes to new software or hardware packages. The IT supplies required to keep the business fully operational is the total responsibility of the IT Manager. It is important that the IT Manager deal with clients internal on all levels to help resolve IT related issues and provides answers in a timely manner.

The IT Manager facilitates team meetings holding regular status meetings to keep his team up-to-date with any IT changes or problems. The IT Manager is responsible to relate effectively IT-related information to superiors. The IT Manger delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations to his team, supervisors, and employee’s when it is necessary. The IT Manager needs to be able to communicate any difficult or sensitive information tactfully. He may not accuse anyone of purposely doing something that disturbed the function of any of the system. Instead he must tactfully explain what must or must not be done to keep the program up and running.

The IT Manager initiates and implements improvements in all areas of IT responsibility serving as the main point of contact on all IT-related matters for the office assigned. In a management position he must identify and provide standards for gathering information for use in trend analysis and reports information to company management. The IT Manager must show good leadership qualities are able to challenge others to develop as leaders while serving as a role model and mentor. The IT Manager manages the development of team by ensuring, when possible, that project tasks are in line with each Innovator’s career interests. The IT Manager should inspire coworkers to attain goals and pursue excellence in their IT position. The IT Manager manages the process of innovative change effectively while remaining on the forefront of emerging industry practices.

The IT Manager must realize that teamwork is vital to any organization being in charge it is his function to consistently acknowledge and appreciates each team member’s contributions. The IT Manager must effectively utilize each team member to his/her fullest potential motivating the whole team to work together in the most efficient manner. The IT Manager is responsible to keep track of lessons learned and shares those lessons with team members. The IT Manager mitigates team conflict and communication problems. The IT Manager is the one who plans and facilitates regular team activities outside of the office. Teamwork and working together help the role of the IT staff keep the company running very smoothly.

The IT Manager not only maintains his group as a team getting them to work together as a unit but he/she is responsible to conduct effective performance evaluations and mentor those with less experience through normal channels. He must be able to help the team execute career development plans. The IT Manager must be willing to seek out and participated in development opportunities above and beyond training required by the company that they work for. Seeking outside training helps the IT Manager a breast of the new innovation techniques that could be used at their own company. The IT Manager encourages more junior Innovators to take responsibility for their development within the company.
