Performer Job Description

Performers are exceptionally talented individuals that do a number of acts such as singing, acting and dancing. Entertaining people has been a living for performers. But as of today, it is a mere fact that it’s just so difficult to employ on this kind of job. More and more individuals arise with great capabilities and potentials, the reason why the entertainment arena is almost overcrowded. Auditions for performers are flooded with aspiring talented persons, but many of those go home with disappointments. People that chose the career of being a performer should be confident and courageous enough to cope up with the intense competition on the field of performing.

Training Requirements:

On the quest for performers, formal trainings, diploma, certifications and other credentials are not necessarily needed. As long as you have the guts, talent, and ability to entertain people, you may be employed as a performer. Experiences also matter, on most times those who are experienced are given extensive chances of employment. However, others may require certain requirements before employing someone. Some may require applicants to undergo training on performing arts and obtain a degree on their specific fields.

Duties of Performers:

  • Entertaining guests and interacting with them
  • Keeping audiences alive and making sure that they enjoy every showcase of acts
  • Striking poses with customers for taking of pictures

Qualifications Needed:

  • Must be flexible
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Good interaction with their audiences
  • Must be energetic to comply with their schedules and rehearsals

Working Environment:

Performers may be found on hotels, casinos, cruises, bars, theme parks and on studios. Working hours for performers are commonly on a graveyard shift; they spend all night long performing and entertaining their guests. However, daytimes are spent for rehearsing acts.

Compensations Received:

Performers receive an income that corresponds to the number of hours they have worked on stage. They are paid based on their presence on gigs and performances. Almost all bars or studios stick to the no performance – no pay policy, which means that performers must keep their selves alive and full of energy to work every night to get the pay complementary to their showcases of performances.
