Why You Should Consider Looking For A Starbucks Jobs

February 20, 2019 //  by Daniel Wardy//  Leave a Comment

Moving into the working world can be a confusing time. Knowing where to go to grab a job and what jobs might offer greater advantages than others is difficult. There are several viable opportunities when it comes to excellent first jobs. Some of these jobs are even suitable for individuals who have retired and want a few extra hours, or for those who want to take advantage of the offered benefits. Chain service providers are often are not seen as desirable places to work. Many pay less than locally owned retailers. That is not the case with all options though, including Starbucks jobs.

This Seattle based coffee chain is known as a desirable destination for work. So if you’re looking for a new job, a first job or something that provides more than just minimum wage, now is the time to check out what options are available with Starbucks jobs. Chances are, there is a Starbucks nearby, which means there likely is always a possibility of a Starbucks hiring new employees just like yourself.

WHAT IS STARBUCKS?

Starbucks Logo

Starbucks is the largest coffee chain in the world. It started out in Seattle, Washington and has since spread throughout the world. In the United States it is available in every state and continues to expand. The chain itself offers several ordering options beyond just coffee. Many now provide food choices, allowing patrons to order snacks along with their coffee.

It is also a favorite destination for individuals who are interested in taking advantage of the complimentary Wi-Fi. For those looking to work on the go and who need an Internet connection, Starbucks is a desirable destination. With so many locations, Starbucks jobs are also plentiful. So for anyone who either wants just a basic job to work while going through college or who wants a job they can advance through, Starbucks is a viable chain opportunity.

WHAT STARBUCKS JOBS ARE AVAILABLE?

When starting off at Starbucks, you’ll usually start at the level of a barista. These are individuals who take orders and prepare the coffee for customers. There are different responsibilities for these baristas depending on how long they have worked. Typically, individuals will start off taking orders and working with customers. From there they will expand upon their knowledge of the menu. Some beverages are regulated through precise measuring systems already in place. This way, a cup of coffee someone orders at a Starbucks in Milwaukee will taste the same as a cup of coffee found in Singapore.

Moving Up

As someone moves their way up with their Starbucks jobs, they will take on more responsibility. They may train to work at the drive-through window and take orders. They will eventually move on to become a shift manager. The shift manager is there to make sure everything runs smoothly. They will also work alongside the other baristas, so they perform much of the same work. A shift manager will probably count the till and deposit money at the end of shifts.

They will work with the incoming shift manager to change out the till and make sure everything is ready for the next shift. The exact duties of a shift manager will probably vary based on those they are working with and the location of the Starbucks.

Eventually, a shift manager may become a key holder. A key holder is someone the owner trusts to unlock the building in the morning or to lock it up at night. They will often have a key so they can come in on short notice and unlock should the other key holders fall ill and not be able to make it in to work. A large number of Starbucks owners own more than one Starbucks, which means they cannot be on hand at every facility. Due to this, it is very important for them to hire professionals who are trustworthy and who will show up and do their job.

The Final Step

Eventually, these Starbucks jobs might lead to becoming an assistant store manager or a full-time store manager. Managers and assistant managers are in charge of the day-to-day operations of the entire store and provide up-to-date information to the owner. If you are interested in ever becoming someone who owns their own Starbucks, working up through the ranks so you know the ins and outs of the business is especially beneficial.

Why Work at Starbucks?

Beyond the opportunity to move up in a Starbucks and to take on greater roles there are several benefits to applying for one of the available Starbucks jobs. These are just a few of the major benefits.

Ability to Move and Find New Work

There will be times when you must move to a new city or state. Perhaps you have finished your time at a school, are transferring to a different college or you are moving with family. Whatever the reason may be, one of the major benefits of working at a Starbucks is the ability to move and to find new work. You can talk with your current manager and see if they can contact a Starbucks in your new location.

If there is an opening the manager at the new store will more than likely hire you on, as you already know the daily requirements of the job. There are specifics that will change, but mostly the job will be the same.

Low Cost Health Insurance

If you are without health insurance, you know the sting of not having it and the penalty cost you need to pay the government for not having it. This is one reason you need to consider Starbucks jobs. Starbucks offers low-cost health insurance, which will save you money. As long as you work at least 20 hours a week you can receive health insurance coverage for $27 per pay check (or $54 a month). That’s far less than you’d pay for the government insurance penalty.

Free Drinks

Do you love Starbucks? Or, at the least, do you love coffee? If so, working at Starbucks is a great way to go. That’s because you’re able to receive three free drinks per shift. Whether you like your coffee black or you like it as sugary as possible, you’re able to take advantage of these free beverages. Plus, you can try the new beverages that Starbucks rolls out. This way, when a customer asks what the new drink is like you can tell them. And best of all, you never have to buy the drink to test it out.

Free Food

Many restaurants charge you for a meal. Some might give you a discount, but you still end up paying money out of pocket for your meal. At Starbucks you receive one free food item per shift. If you work 20 or more hours, that’s likely four or five shifts, which means that’s four or five meals you may not need to cover over the course of a week. All of this adds up in the long run. Plus, if you’re a college student, you already know the perks of a free meal and three free cups of coffee.

Tuition Reimbursement

Speaking of going to college, if you’re paying out of pocket this is one of the best options out there, and you really need to consider it. First, Starbucks partnered with Arizona State University Online, to guarantee if you work at least 20 hours a week you’ll receive full tuition reimbursement to take classes at ASU Online. ASU Online is not a for profit institution as with many other online educational schools. It is part of Arizona State University, so if you’re looking for a way to save money and receive a college education, this is the way to go.

There might be classes or a degree you can’t receive from ASU Online, or you’d rather go to a different college institution. Starbucks will cover 40 percent of your upfront tuition when you pay for the rest using federal loans. You will need to pay for the schooling up front and, at the end of the semester, Starbucks will provide you with a paycheck for 40 percent (it is designed this way so you do not drop out early on and then receive all the money Starbucks paid without receiving course credit).

If you are thinking about going to college or you already go to college, this is one of the best options you need to take advantage of.

Conclusion

Starbucks might be a chain, but it is one of the best chain corporations when it comes to taking care of employees. With Starbucks you’ll receive cheap health insurance, several free beverage and food options per shift, and you’re able to receive at the least 40 percent off your college education, or even have it paid for completely when you work over 20 hours a week and attend ASU Online classes. With so many perks, it is worth checking out. So when it comes to exceptionalwork, Starbucks jobs can provide you with several sizeable benefits.
