Molder and Casting Workers Job Description

The Molder and Casting Workers perform a variety of duties such as mixing materials, assembling mold parts, filling molds, and stacking molds to mold and cast wide range of products.

Duties:

The Molder and Casting worker brushes or sprays mold surfaces with parting agents, or inserts paper into molds in order to ensure smoothness and prevent sticking or seepage. The Molder and Casting worker cleans, finishes, and lubricates molds and mold parts. The Molder and Casting worker separates models or patterns from molds, and examines products for accuracy. The Molder and Casting worker pours packs, spreads, or presses plaster, concrete, liquid plastic or other materials into or around models or molds. The Molder and Casting worker operates and adjusts controls of heating equipment to melt materials or to cure, dry or bake filled molds. The Molder and Casting worker reads work orders or examines parts in order to determine parts or sections of products to be produced. The Molder and Casting worker loads or stacks filled molds in ovens, dryers, or curing boxes, or on storage racks or carts. The Molder and Casting worker sets the proper operating temperature for each casting. The Molder and Casting worker measures and cuts products to specified dimensions, using measuring and cutting instruments in order to do the job function properly. The Molder and Casting worker removes access materials, and levels and smooth’s wet mold mixtures. The Molder and Casting worker need knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • The Molder and Casting worker needs the skill to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

Abilities:

The Molder and Casting worker needs the ability to use their abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing. The Molder and Casting worker needs the ability to keep the hand and arm steady while moving the arm or while holding the arm and the hand in one position. The Molder and Casting worker needs the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects. The Molder and Casting worker needs the ability to quickly move the hand, the hand together with the arm, or the two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects The Molder and Casting worker needs the ability to bend stretch, twist, or reach with the body, arms and/or legs. The Molder and Casting worker needs the ability to quickly and accurately compare similarities and differences among sets of letters, numbers, objects, pictures or patterns. The things that need to be compared maybe presented at the same time or at a later time depending on the project and the object.

The Molder and Casting worker needs the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not mean that they have to solve the problem only recognize that there is a problem. The Molder and Casting worker needs the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions. The Molder and Casting worker observes, receives, and otherwise obtains information from all relevant sources before they start any project making sure that the project will be done correctly.
