The Roustabouts job function is to assemble or repair oil field equipment using hand and power tools. They are also required to perform other tasks as needed.
Duties:
The Roustabouts job is to clean up spilled oil by balling it into barrels. The Roustabouts job is to unscrew or tighten pipes, casing, tubing, and pump rods, using hand and power wrenches and tongs. The Roustabout bolts together pump and engine parts. The Roustabout walks flow lines to locate leaks, using electronic detectors and making visual inspections. The Roustabout must move pipes to and from trucks, using truck winches and motorized lifts, or by hand. The Roustabouts dismantle and repair oil field machinery, boilers, and steam engine parts, using hand tools and power tools. The Roustabouts dig drainage ditches around wells and storage tanks. The Roustabout keeps pipe deck and main deck areas clean and tidy. The Roustabout guides cranes to move loads about decks and makes sure that all safety precautions are maintained. The Roustabout supplies equipment to rig floors as requested, and provides assistance to roughnecks.

The Roustabout needs knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
