Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators Job Description

The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators job function is to operate industrial trucks or tractors equipped to move materials around a warehouse, storage yard, factory, construction site, or similar location.

Duties:

The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators inspect product load for accuracy, and safely move it around the warehouse or facility to ensure timely and complete delivery. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator moves controls to drive gasoline- or electric-powered trucks, cars, or tractors and transport materials between loading, processing, and storage areas. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators move levers and controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams and swivel-hooks, hoists, and elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, and stack material. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators position lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, and boxes, and secure material or products for transport to designated areas.

The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator manually or mechanically load and unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms, cars, lifting devices, or other transport vehicles. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator does routine maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, recharging batteries, fueling, or replacing liquefied-gas tanks. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators must weigh materials or products, and record weight and other production data on tags or labels. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators must operate or tend automatic stacking, loading, packaging, or cutting machines. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators turn valves and open chutes to dump, spray, or release materials from dump cars or storage bins into hoppers. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator signals workers to discharge, dump, or level materials.

Activities:

The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators have certain activities that they are required to do as part of their job function. They are required to operate vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment. This requires running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or water craft. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operators must observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources in order to perform their job function. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator analyze information and evaluate the results to choose the best solution and to solve problems that are work related.

Abilities

The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator must have the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator needs the ability to coordinate two or more limbs for example , two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator need the ability to see details at a distance as well as see things close up. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator needs the ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object. The Industrial Truck and Tractor Operator need the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, pull, or carry objects.
