Electrician Helpers Job Description

The Electrician Helper job function is to help electricians by performing duties of lesser skill. Some of their duties include using, supplying or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment.

Duties:

The Electrician Helper traces out short circuits in wiring, using a test meter. The Electrician Helper measures, cuts, and bends wires and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools. The Electrician Helper maintains tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order. The Electrician Helper drills holes and pulls or push wiring through openings, using hand and power tools. The Electrician Helper performs semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment. The Electrician Helper disassembles defective electrical equipment, replaces defective or worn parts, and reassembles equipment, using hand tools. The Electrician Helper transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work site by hand, hand truck, or heavy, motorized truck. The Electrician Helper examines electrical units for loose connections and broken insulation and tightens connections, using hand tools. The Electrician Helper strips insulation from wire ends, using wire stripping pliers, and attaches wires to terminals for subsequent soldering. The Electrician Helper threads conduit ends, connects couplings, and fabricates and secures conduits support brackets, using hand tools.

Skills:

The Electrician Helper needs to have certain skills that will enable him to be of assistance to the Electrician. The Electrician Helper must have the skill to install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet applications. The Electrician Helper uses mathematics in order to resolve problems pertaining to his job function. The Electrician Helper must have the skill to determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about it. The Electrician Helper must give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. The Electrician Helper must have the skill to talk to others to convey information effectively. The Electrician Helper needs the skill to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. The Electrician Helper needs the skill to manage the time spent on a project by the crew and also their time. The Electrician Helper identifies complex problems and reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. The Electrician Helper needs the skill to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. The Electrician Helper determines the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

Abilities:

The Electrician Helper needs the ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. The Electrician Helper needs the ability to see details at close range as they work closely with their job function on wiring. The Electrician Helper needs the ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. The Electrician Helper needs the ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules using patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations. The Electrician Helper needs the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. Then they must report to their superiors or the head Electrician the problem. The Electrician Helper needs the ability to keep the hand and arm steady while moving the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble very small objects. The Electrician Helper needs the ability to use you’re abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing. The Electrician Helper needs the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions. The Electrician Helper needs the ability to coordinate two or more limbs for example two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm while setting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing activities with the whole body in motion.
