Aerospace Technician Job

Aerospace Engineering and Operations Technicians work for companies that build aircraft and space vehicles.

Primary Objectives:

  • The Aerospace Technician bases his work on aeronautics, the science of flight.
  • The Aerospace Technician bases parts of his work n astronautics, the science of space travel.
  • Since both aircraft and spacecraft are produced in the industries the Aerospace Technician must understand how both work together.

Most Aerospace engineers and operations technicians work for companies that build aircraft and space vehicles. The science of flight is based on Aeronautics, while the science of space travel is based on astronautics. The Aerospace industry is based on both sciences. The Aerospace Technician works in both sciences on aircraft or spaceships, depending on his job assignment. Aerospace Engineering and operations technicians construct test and maintain aircraft and space vehicles. We Aerospace Engineer usually work on rockets, missiles, helicopters, and airplanes. They are just tested with and for accuracy and determined causes of equipment malfunctions. Aerospace Engineers use computers to record and interpret test data. Aerospace Technicians often work on several kinds of projects simultaneously.

Most Aerospace Engineer and operations technicians work for companies that build aircraft and space vehicles. These companies have contracts to build this equipment for private airlines or the federal government. Aerospace Engineers worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), universities, or research institutes. Most of these companies are located along the West Coast; some companies in the aerospace industry are located in the South or along the East Coast. Due to the complexity of the aerospace industry, there is great variety in the type of work available for technicians. Many Aerospace Engineers specialize in certain kinds of equipment, such as air intake valves for jet engines. Some Aerospace Engineers spend several years working on small, one-of-a-kind parts used in spaceships.

Then some Aerospace Engineers specialize in certain kinds of systems, such as hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical systems. Aerospace Engineers also work with aircraft instruments, sheet metal, or landing gears. The Aerospace Engineer usually works as part of a team under the direction of scientists or engineers. The Aerospace Engineer performs much of the routine work, allowing the scientists and engineers to focus on tasks that make use of their more advanced training. When you are an Aerospace Engineer you normally work in all phases of the industry, including research and development, production, and sales. Aerospace Engineers must be capable of preparing precise drawings or scale models. While other Aerospace Engineers focus on special instruments to take measurements, collect information, or perform laboratory tests. The Aerospace Engineer is required to write reports, make cost estimates, or prepare plans for the manufacture of equipment. Aerospace Engineers work as field representatives when it is required of them by the company that they are employed by. Since the Aerospace Engineer is very familiar with the project then it is easier for them to go out into the field and represent the project, find materials for the project or just present the project to the right sources for increased funding. Often the government may provide some funding; however, it is the private resources that help the Aerospace Engineers to be able to complete the project.

The Aerospace Engineer often offer assistance and advice to their company’s customers, such as NASA or armed services. Aerospace Engineers may work as technical writers, preparing information for instruction manuals or catalogs. The Aerospace Engineer has several ways to train to become an Aerospace Engineer or Operations Technician. In high school you should take as many math and science classes as possible. You can then attend a college or technical school and take two-year program in engineering or aerospace technology. You should check with the different schools because some schools offer work-study programs in which you attend classes while working in the industry. Some companies in the aerospace industry offer on-the-job training programs. Apprenticeship programs, such as those given in drafting and electronics, may lead to a position as an Aerospace Engineer or Technician. There are some home-study courses that can qualify you for a job as a technician in the aerospace industry. Most Aerospace Engineers and Technicians may have to pass a security clearance before they can work on defense projects.
