Tire Repair Job Description

The Tire Repair person repairs and replaces tires.

Job Function

The Tire Repair person must identify and inflate tires correctly for the size and ply. The Tire Repair person places wheels on balancing machines to determine counterweights required to balance wheels. The Tire Repair person raises vehicles using hydraulic jacks in order to perform their job function. The Tire Repair person remounts wheels onto vehicles. The Tire Repair person locates punctures in tubeless tires by visual inspection or by immersing inflated tires in water baths and observing air bubbles. The Tire Repair person unbolts wheels from vehicles and remove them, using lug wrenches and other hand and power tools. The Tire Repair person reassembles tires onto wheels. The Tire Repair person replaces valve stems and removes puncturing object objects. The Tire Repair person hammers required counterweights onto rims of wheels. The Tire Repair person rotates tires to different positions on vehicles, using hand tools. The Tire Repair person needs knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. The Tire Repair person needs knowledge of principles and processes for providing and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skills

The Tire Repair person must give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. The Tire Repair person needs to be able to install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications. The Tire Repair person understands written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. The Tire Repair person must be able to repair machines or systems using the needed tools. The Tire Repair person must have the skill to determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. The Tire Repair person must have the skill adjust actions in relation to others’ actions. The Tire Repair person performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed. The Tire Repair person must have the skill to talk to others to convey information effectively in regards to his job function. He will need to be able to explain to the customer why the tire has gone bad or if it has a puncture. The Tire Repair person will also need to explain the job function to his superiors, co-workers, and others that are working with him on the job. The Tire Repair person needs to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. The Tire Repair person will need to be actively looking for ways to help people.

Ability

The Tire Repair person will need the ability to coordinate two or more limbs for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion. The Tire Repair needs the ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. The Tire Repair needs the ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without ‘giving out’ or fatiguing. The Tire Repair person needs the ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. The Tire Repair person needs the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects. The Tire Repair person needs the ability to see details at close range within a few feet of the observer in order to do their job function properly. The Tire Repair person needs the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. The Tire Repair person needs the ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific set of rules for example patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations. The Tire Repair person needs the ability to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
