There are many governors that turned out to be senators and few have also become presidents in the United States. However, being a head of a state isn’t a simple job as it entails huge responsibilities. Below is the information to read on about a state governor’s job description.

What is a state governor?

The governor is an officially elected state’s chief of executive by popular votes. The jobs of state governors are most likely similar with the responsibilities of a president but are just on a state level.

Duties of a state governor

  • A role of a state governor differs from state to state and is multifaceted. Officially, state governors are in-charge in overseeing the government’ executive branch.
  • Governors, along with their other colleagues and staff, submit and create budgets to their legislature: veto or sign bills when needed: call the military of the state when crisis arise: appoint certain officials to their state: and assist cases in court.
  • Annually, state governors give their “state of the nation address” in order to inform its citizens regarding the current social and political climate in their state.
  • The governor has limited power in state version of balances and checks. However, they have the capacity to veto, command the National Guard of the state and create budgets that go with the headings of “running their state.”

Conditions of Work

Being a governor entails high pressure responsibilities that are mostly in the spotlight. At times of political campaigns, events on the past can help upward by their opponents. With that, aspiring governors can be the main subject of harsh criticism and rigorous hours from their opposing party in politics.

Educational requirements

  • Aspiring candidates should be officially elected by residents of the particular. Candidates should also be a resident of the state for a minimum of 5 years and the age requirement should be at least 30 years old and hold an American citizen.
  • Most successful state governors possess intense skills in communication and leadership as well as a good educational background and a good history in serving local governments.

Occupation and Progress

Becoming a state governor has great responsibilities for the citizen of a particular state. However, this career is absolutely a rewarding one as you are able serve the state where you belong. The average swage for a governor in United States is about $125,000 per annum, but many state governors don’t accept salaries from the state as a lot of them are already wealthy.
