Concierges Job Description

The Concierges assist patrons at hotels, apartments or office building with personal services. They may take messages, arrange or give advice on transportation, business services or entertainment, or monitor guest requests for housekeeping and maintenance.


  • The Concierges make dining and other reservations for patrons, and obtain tickets for events.
  • The Concierges provide information about local features such as shopping, dining, nightlife, and recreational destinations.
  • The Concierges make travel arrangements for sightseeing and other tours.
  • The Concierges receive, store, and deliver luggage and mail.
  • The Concierges perform office duties on a temporary basis when needed.
  • The Concierges pick up and deliver items, or run errands for guests.
  • The Concierges carry out unusual requests such as searching for hard-to-find items and arranging for exotic services such as hot-air balloon rides.
  • The Concierges arrange for the replacement of items lost by travelers.
  • The concierges arrange for interpreters or translators when patrons require such services.
  • The Concierges plan special events, parties, and meetings, which may include booking musicians or celebrities to appear.


The Concierges need knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. The Concierge need knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. The Concierges need knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems. The Concierges need knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. The Concierges need knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. The Concierges need knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. The Concierges need knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.


The Concierges give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. The Concierges must actively look for ways to help people. The Concierges talk to others to convey information effectively. The Concierges must be aware of others’ reactions and understand why they react as they do. The Concierges need the skill to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. The Concierges needs the skill to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. The Concierges needs the skill to manage one’s own time and the time of others. The Concierges needs the skill to communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. The Concierges need the ability to adjust actions in relation to others’ actions. The Concierges teach others how to do something.
