Air Force Colonel Job Description

Who are the Air Force Colonels?

In the United States Army, an Air Force Colonel is a senior officer rank on top of the rank of lieutenant colonel and is below the rank of brigadier general. The pay grade for the position of colonel is O-6. Nowadays, Air Force Colonel characteristically commands a wing consisting of 1,000 to 3,000 airmen, are also found as the chief of staff at divisional level Numbered Air Force staff agencies. Their silver eagle insignia is worn facing inwards with head and beak pointing towards the wearer’s neck.

Duties and Responsibilities of an Air Force Colonel

An Air Force Colonel has a wide multiplicity of duties and responsibilities. There are more than hundreds of different Air Force Specialty Codes to administer inside this area office of the military, therefore one Air Force Colonel might sit behind a desk and manage contracting specialists while another Air Force colonel might run the base chapel and conduct religious services. Colonels are not the highest ranks in military however they are regarded as senior officers, so commonly they are assigned to command a division or entire bases depending on the purposes, specializations and of the size of the division or base. A colonel can be assigned to a flying unit, or assigned to supervise the dining facility; the colonel might even act as a link between the general or high-ranking commander and the rest of the lower-ranking air force officers.

An Air Force Colonel can be paid with average earnings of $4,163.70 to $10,247.70 per month with benefits which includes, Healthcare/insurance, can accumulate apartments and an on-based housing that are provided free of charge, education, allowances, discounts, can retire after 20 years with pension, and every entitled veteran be given a military funeral honors ceremony, to include folding and presenting the United States burial flag and the playing of Taps.

Education and Training Requirements needed to reach and become Air Force Colonel

If you intend to become a Colonel, your first journey is to visit a military recruiter and pass the requirements of becoming Air Force personnel which includes age limits between 17-27(If you are 17 you must have parent’s written consent), must have pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test, medical eligibility, must have no drug history, no crimes committed, Air Force frequently acknowledges only individuals with a high school diploma or adult education diploma, must have no bad credit history, and is legally U.S. citizen. The competition in promotion is so tight of becoming a colonel and the opportunity is expected to be about a chance of 55%, so one must have to strive for this position.
